Dupin Lite 2 App Reviews

15 Customer Reviews:

I used to use Dupin Lite (which was quite satisfactory). I today bought Dupin lite 2. Upon launching (Yosemite 10.2), a menu bar appears, but no window of any kind. And there seems to be NO way of obtaining a window. The File menu instructs me to “get duplicates”, but HOW? I do expect applications to work before they are put on sale. Money back?

Just downloaded it onto my secondard mac via the store, and what was working fine on my laptop, is a no go on my iMac. Simply no application window appears. Menu is there, but no matter what I do, I can’t see the app window. Reduced window from the menu gives a weird small squished icon in the dock. Bummed out.

app shows no window

…..same problem here….no application windows …...

The application works great and is still the one of the best out there to remove duplicates from your iTunes library. I am disapointed there was no update to the original Dupin Lite and I had to repurchase an app I already paid for. Most applications reward returing customers, not ask them to pay more.

This works well enough in finding dupes in the library, but the ‘move to trash’ just appars to be making a copy into the trash. When I went out and verified for physical dupes not actually in the iTunes library, all the files were still tehre, along with a copy on the trash. Irritated that I spent money for a script that used to be free, and it doen’t even work as advertised. It did at least clean up the library itself, and another file dupelicate cleaner did the rest, so somewhat functional. Please fix this.

The other reviews here are completely mistaken. I’ve been testing software professionally for 15 years, I’m head of a software development department at a major company. This program is exceptional, and a life saver, so I feel obliged to correct the misinformation from the other reviews: - Someone said it only makes a copy in the trash, it doesn’t actually move the file to the trash. Uh, no. You’re high. I tested this under a microscope before I unleashed it on my precious music collection. It deleted the track from the iTunes library, deleted the physical MP3 from its location while I watched it disappear, and it then showed up in the trash. Next. - “A script that used to be free” - my god you people are ungrateful. Right now, Dupin is still being sold for 15 bucks on the web. But here on App Store, the price is only $5.99. That’s awesome. You’re not entitled to have someone else’s hard work for free. - Someone wrote “doesn’t work at all - no iTunes duplicate manager”. You sir are in a coma and should not be allowed near software, let alone software reviews. With 15 years of building and supporting enterprise web applications and native apps, I learned to test software, but I also learned that “the user is an idiot”. We can say by extrapolation that the user should not be allowed to write reviews that affect the livelihood of the software developer. I had a massive “previous itunes library” folder with 80GB of music, while my main itunes folder had 50GB of music, leaving me in hell. Tons of those files are my own compositions recorded on my mac or a studio. Meanwhile, Time Machine could no longer run until I deleted files and created space. I needed a program I can trust, to help me consolidate my bifurcated collection in order to free up many GB, that’s why this turned out to be a lifesaver.

After playing around with iTunes Match, I landed up with over 10,000 duplicates. Most with different bit rates, some with xxx 2.mp3 file names. After doing 3,000 by hand, I figured <$8 was worth the time saved doing it automatically. It did what it was to do. No complaints.

I used to use iTunes Match and stopped for a while, manually using playlists and substituing a cloud storage provider (OneDrive) to house my music files. When Apple Music was launched I switched back and all my old files found their way back, creating a couple thousand duplicates. I had previously used the Dupin Lite app and it was OK, but I switched to DupeAway. With the new version of iTunes, I could not get that app to work, so I looked for another utility. The developer has done a really fine job with the new Duplin Lite 2 - it is intuitive and easy-to-use. Well-thought out user interface and functioned perfectly - it was actually pretty fun to see how I could filter by time, size, oldest modified/newest modified. Lots of choices to make purging easier. I couldn’t be more pleased - well worth the eight bucks. Thanks!!

I just purchased Dupin 2 Lite. After attempting to open it, and nothing happening, I deleted it. Now when i come back to redownload it, it doesn’t even download.

The original worked for awhile, the new, more expensive version does nothing. Had to use itunes dupe and delete manually. This used to be a decent product… Now a waste. This was used with most current apple updates.

This version does not work in Yosemite 10.10.5 . You start the program and you get a Dupin Lite Menu Bar and then… nothing. It fails to open a Dupin Lite window as described in the documentation, so you’re pretty much stuck with a virtual paperweight rather than a useful program. Applying for a refund.

After I migrated my itunes collection from my PC to my new macbook, I found myself with a very disorganized library with over 1,000 duplicates. I started going through the library with MusicBrainz Picard to get the right info, but it took forever to organize and find duplicates through iTunes. I took a leap of faith with this app, as there weren’t many alternatives, and I couldn’t tell with the low review count if it was going to help me out or not. Although it has it’s faults, the app worked to my satisfaction and saved me a ton of time. Unlike iTunes, the app had no problems with similar tracks. It allows you to match songs based on same title, artist, and album, so Live albums did not get confused with studio albums. That made it much easier to rely on the app to pick the right duplicates. Once you scan your library and come up with a duplicate list, you can filter the results on what you would like to keep. I prefer the AAC file format over the MP3 one, so I set it up to keep AAC versions of my songs. I was also able to choose that I wanted to keep the oldest song added to the library over the newest. There are many more options on the filter to customize what you would like to keep (bitrate, rating, play count…etc). Since I have some iCloud purchased songs, Dupin did not delete the songs from the app. What it did was put the songs into a playlist, which I was then able to delete using commad+option+delete from itunes. This actually helped me to verify the accuracy of the songs it wanted to purge before I actually purged them. The only real issue I cam accross was that Dupin would select iCloud songs as duplicates when they were not. Maybe that has something to do with it being listed as an iCloud song and a downloadable song. Either way, I did not purge any iCloud songs from my library, focusing only on non-icloud songs Pros: You can customize how you want the app to pick and choose duplicates You can remove dead (!) songs from your library You can choose to highligh songs and simply purge those instead Filter out songs based on file type, ratings, playcount…etc Dupin puts to delete songs into a playlist so you can double check before purging Very quick app, saved me a ton of time, many more options than itunes “Find Dupicates" Cons: App is a bit pricey for my tastes, but the time saved helped me swallow the cost Sometimes Dupin would not remove all dead links. iCloud purchases showed up as duplicates when they were single downloaded songs Dupin could not purge duplicates that pointed to the same file. You’ll need to manually delete those If you have a large library and are in need of purging some duplicates, remove some dead links, this is a great program. The price is kinda high, but it does a great job, and it is pretty accurate. Maybe you can catch it on sale at some point. THis along with MusicBrainz Picard should help you to organize your bloated library.
